The Lion King – A Generation Later

So recently, a group of friends and I were talking about our childhood and lessons we have learned when we were toddlers. (Not) surprisingly, we all mentioned our experiences with Disney movies and the life lessons that the animated films taught. As we reminisced, one of my friends suggested the limited time screening of The Lion King 3D. The timing was perfect. As I drove to the Council Bluffs’ AMC Theater, my friends in the back seat sang word-for-word the songs “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” and many others. Even though our pitch was off and some of us (like me) stumbled with some lines, we had a blast. At the theater, we all were like kids again and giddy with excitement of reliving one of our favorite childhood movies which we all probably have on VHS. We hummed songs, laughed with the young audience around us, and even felt emotional when (SPOILER) Mufusa died. When the credits started to roll, we felt refreshed. It’s been over fifteen years, and still Disney has been a childhood influence in our lives. It surely was a great way to end the week!
